ABSTRACT

La pitiriasis rosada es una enfermedad eritematoescamosa autolimitada que afecta exclusivamente la piel con probable etiología viral. Se realizó un trabajo descriptivo observacional prospectivo donde se incluyeron 119 pacientes que consultaron en nuestro servicio en un periodo de 2 años. El objetivo fue analizar las diferentes formas clínicas y variables que intervienen en dicha patología. En los resultados destacamos que el hallazgo de formas clínicas típicas fue 75,4% y atípicas en un 24,6%. El Estrés psicofísico actuó como desencadenante en un 39,5% de los casos, mientras que en el hemograma se observó la presencia de monocitosis en un 82,1% de los pacientes y eosinofilia en un 22,1%. Resultaría de interés, en investigaciones futuras, la evaluación del estrés psicofísico como factor desencadenante del cuadro dermatológico, considerando que no ha sido desarrollado apropiadamente en la bibliografía consultada.

ABSTRACT

In Argentina, the incidence of American Cutaneous Leishmaniasis (ACL) has shown a steady increase over the last few decades. In the Chaco biogeographical region, specifically, several outbreaks of ACL were recently reported in addition to the usual time-space scattering of ACL cases. However, little is known about the sandfly composition in the eastern, humid Chaco (HC) region or the western, dry Chaco (DC) region. Therefore, phlebotomine captures were performed throughout this region and an analysis of the distribution of reported ACL cases was conducted in order to assess the vector diversity in ACL endemic and epidemic scenarios in the Chaco region. The results support the hypothesis of two distinct patterns: (1) the DC, where Lutzomyia migonei was the most prevalent species, had isolated ACL cases and a zoonotic cycle; (2) the HC, where Lutzomyia neivai was the most prevalent species, had an increase in ACL incidence and outbreaks and an anthropozoonotic cycle. The epidemic risk in the Chaco region may be associated with the current climate trends, landscape modification, connection with other ACL foci, and Lu. neivai predominance and abundance. Therefore, changes in sandfly population diversity and density in the Chaco region are an indicator of emergent epidemic risk in sentinel capture sites.

ABSTRACT

Between March and July 1996, a focalized epidemic outbreak of cutaneous leishmaniasis in General Vedia, province of Chaco, associated to the gallery forest of the Oro river was verified. The incidence rate in the area, which was 0-2/000 cases in preceding years, reached 8/000 cases in 1996. The risk of symptomatic infection was similar between sexes, but was different when analizing the different age groups by sex, suggesting a greater relative importance of the peridomestic transmission for the females and of the transmission in the subtropical forest for the males. Specimens of Lutzomyia intermedia, a species already incriminated as a vector of Leishmaniasis in other provinces of northern Argentina, were captured and identified in the focus locality in May 1996. The possible causes of the outbreak related to the climatic variables and the vector abundance are analyzed and the results in the framework of possible preventive and control activities are discussed

ABSTRACT

The response to recombinant 10-KD heat shock protein (HSP of Mycobacterium leprae (rML10) was evaluated by indirect ELISA in sera from leprosy patients, household contacts, tuberculosis patients and healthy controls a leprosy-endemic area in tne North East of Argentina. Some technical parameters were a analyzed: within-assay and between-assay variability, dose-response curves and dectability indexed (specificity and sensitivity) of ELISA applied to measure anti-10kDa antibodies. High levels of these antibodies have already been reported in positive baciloscopy patients; herein we have also demonstrated that tuberculosis patients sera cross-react with this M. leprae antigen. This test seems to have a low sensificity for leporsy detection; it confirms that antibodies against highly conserved HSP antigens are important in the polycional response against mycobacterial epitopes in leprosy as well as in tuberculosis.
